How to Prepare Classical Walnut Baklava

Put all the ingredients of the dough in a deep bowl, except flour.
Slowly start kneading by adding flour to it. Knead until you get a dough that is not sticking to the hand and has a consistency of earlobe. If missing, add flour. Cover the dough you obtained with a damp cloth and let it rest at room temperature.
Transfer the granulated sugar and water into a deep saucepan. Melt the sugar over medium heat and mix until the water boils. When it starts to boil well, add the lemon juice and boil it for a while. Then remove it from the stove and let it cool at room temperature.

Remove 20 walnuts from the rest of the dough in the size of walnuts so spread starch on these meringues and spread them thinly in the size of your tray.
Once you have greased the tray well, start transferring the dough. For the top 10 dough base, separate the rest for the top.
Spread the melted butter between each layer. When you arrive in the middle, add the walnuts. After removing the remaining layers, shape them with a knife. Roll the remaining melted butter over it.
Bake in an oven heated at 180 degrees for about 25-30 minutes.
Take it out and place it over the sherbet. After taking the baklava sherbet, consume it with pleasure.

History of Baklava :

With the Turks, Arabs, Jews, Greeks, Armenians and Bulgarians all having claimed baklava as their national dessert, the history of the saccharine dish is a bit more complicated than expected . Here, we recount the story of the dessert as best we can.
It could be said that the Ottoman Empire’s wide reach across its dominions in the Middle East, Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans and Caucasia could be the reason why various cultures call baklava their own dessert . However, whether the dessert came from the ancient Greek or Byzantine empires . Or the nomadic Arabs or Turks, is still uncertain. What we can say is that the dessert took on quite the elaborate forms during the Ottoman period, with written evidence in the Topkapı Palace kitchen notebooks beginning in 1473.

A dessert of the sultans, baklava became synonymous with wealth and sophistication as well as a state tradition. In the late 17th century, the baklava parade began to take place where the empire’s soldiers were treated to the decadent dessert during the big feast of the Ramazan holiday. The procession of baklava trays being carried from to the barracks became a parade, with a long march cheered on by the people of Istanbul.

Today, baklava is no longer only a dessert for the rich, having become a ubiquitous gift for every kind of celebration. In Turkey, every birth, visit, wedding, graduation or funeral is accompanied by boxes of baklava also the most famous of which is from the city of Gaziantep, known for its excellent pistachios (baklava’s favorite filling).
